An Existential Moment

The moon on the water,
Light and pattern,
Moving and still,
Vague and formless,
Light and pattern,
No heat, no substance,
Only illusion.

And if in the water, there were no reeds,
Would then there be clarity?
Would then, could we see?

We dare not sing on clear nights;
Best drows midst the shadows,
Safe from falling stars.
