Beautiful Vancouver

Beautiful Vancouver, Historical Note

Beautiful Vancouver was self-published by the composer, George Brownson in 1952. Nothing seems to have become of the song, and no information is available about the composer or what became of him.

I found a copy of the work in a pile of old sheet music at Barclay Manor where, once a week, I accompany a seniors sing-a-long group called Heritage Harmonies. While there were problems with the arrangement and some lyrics, I basically liked the song, undertook some editing and presented it to my seniors. They loved it, learned it and have been singing it ever since, especially in our public performances.

The recording is from one of our sing-a-long sessions. While it lacks the polish of a trained choir, it certainly conveys the enthusiasm the group feels for this long-lost gem.

Beautiful Vancouver

Nature made a second Eden, on the verdant western strand.

There you twinkle like a gem, fair in Nature's diadem,

A shining city set by silver sand.

BEAUTIFUL VANCOUVER, queen of the western shore.

Mountains crowned with snow, where sparkling rivers flow,

Lie bountifully at your door.

Flowers richly blended grace your lawns of em'rald green.

Brightly colored lights make fairyland of night,

Vancouver, my seaside queen.
